Phishing: two problems, one easy solution

Phishing is a double problem for businesses. Customers get caught out by fake invoices or other scams – with reputational damage as a result. And customers are increasingly suspicious of payment invitations and documents that are legitimate – resulting in unpaid bills. So what is the solution?

With Doccle, companies and customers put Internet fraudsters out of business.

A lot of companies mail invoices, contracts and other documents to their customers. Easy for them and also their customers probably find it the most convenient solution. Only, they often forget a crucial aspect: security and especially phishing.

3 million Belgians

Customers of companies who communicate primarily by e-mail are a favorite target for phishers, scammers who lure people to a fake website in order to trick them into giving up their passwords or credit card numbers. Moreover, such cybercriminals are becoming increasingly ingenious. The days of phishing emails in poor Dutch and lame excuses are long gone.

Research shows that about a quarter of Flemings and a third of Walloons have already fallen victim to phishing. That’s about 3 million Belgians. In doing so, Internet fraudsters often used the name of a well-known company.

The dilemma of digital communication

But awareness is also growing. People are wary because they have already been victims of phishing or some other form of online scam. Such caution is, of course, a good thing. Only, with it, confusion also increases. ‘A customer who gets an e-mail does not always know whether it really comes from you or is secure, says Bram Lerouge, CEO of Doccle. ‘Consequence? No immediate action is taken and emails are forgotten, documents are lost, crucial communications are missed and bills go unpaid. Or the customer – if they take the time to check authenticity – emails or calls the sender. After which companies spend valuable time and energy trying to reassure their customers.’

A secure alternative to the mailbox

And so companies have to look for solutions. You can direct customers to your own environment and let them pay there – but that is not always obvious. Or you use a digital platform like Belgium’s Doccle, which allows users to manage all their administrative documents in one place. Customers can receive, pay and archive invoices, sign and manage contracts, store documents securely and receive electronic registered mail. More than 17,000 companies and governments work with the platform today. ‘By 2023, we anticipate that more than 170 million documents will be shared through Doccle,’ Lerouge said. ‘And there is still a lot of growth potential.’

Safety & ease of use

With Doccle, businesses can not only easily digitize their records, they also bestow their customers with peace of mind, overview and convenience. Doccle need not replace e-mail. ‘Companies can still use Doccle to send their customers a payment invitation via email. Doccle adds an extra guarantee because the customer can then easily verify and pay for it in the Doccle app or on doccle.be if he doubts the authenticity of the email. The same goes for contracts, pay slips, registered mail and other documents. We have a unique solution for registered mail that is not based on an email with a link, and we also allow documents to be opened in the banking apps via Zoomit,” concludes Bram Lerouge. ‘This way, companies and their customers put phishers out of business: every company that works with Doccle is authenticated, every document is encrypted, and every user must authenticate to access the app or doccle.be.’
