New Legislation, also for self-employed professionals

From 2026, e-invoicing via Peppol will become legally mandatory for B2B invoices.

Peppol is a secure European network through which businesses must send invoices electronically to other businesses. To make this possible, every company must register on this network. Once registered, invoices can be securely sent and received via Peppol.

This legislation aims to automate the invoicing process, making it safer and more efficient.

Compliant without new software & compatible with your accounting qystem

This obligation also applies to self-employed professionals. Since Doccle is committed to making administration easier for the self-employed, Peppol has been integrated into the Doccle platform. This allows businesses to access the Peppol network for free.

You don’t need any new software. Once you complete your free registration, all your business invoices will automatically arrive in your Doccle account. You can also forward them directly to your accountant or accounting software.

Does Peppol apply to me?

VAT obligation: Peppol is intended for business invoices (B2B and B2G). If you are exempt from VAT, Peppol is not required to send invoices. However, you will still receive invoices via Peppol and must therefore register for Peppol.

Self-employed as a secondary occupation: If you are VAT-liable, you will need to send your invoices via Peppol as a self-employed person in a secondary occupation. In any case, registration remains mandatory to receive and store incoming invoices.

Foreign suppliers: The Peppol requirement applies to Belgium. For specific regulations in other countries, you should check local requirements first, both for incoming and outgoing invoices.

Invoicing individuals: Invoices to individuals do not need to be sent via Peppol. However, as a self-employed person, you will need to register to receive your incoming invoices.
